Kapil Sibal new President of SCBA

Veteran lawyer and former Union Minister, Kapil Sibal, who celebrated 50 years at the Bar last year, has been elected President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) after more than two decades. Sibal previously served as SCBA President in 2001-02, and before that in 1995-96 and 1997-98.

In the recent election, Sibal garnered 1066 votes, while his closest competitor, Senior Advocate Pradeep Rai, received 689 votes. The incumbent President, Senior Advocate Dr. Adish C. Aggarwala, secured 296 votes (figures are tentative). Other candidates included Priya Hingorani, Tripurari Ray, and Neeraj Srivastava.

This marks the fourth time Sibal has been elected as SCBA President, with his last term ending twenty-three years ago in 2001. Upon his victory, Sibal emphasized his commitment to keeping politics out of the courtroom.
