Odes to the legal system.
To Chief Justice:

“sār-è-mimbar woh khwābon ke mahal ta’meer karte hain,

ilāaj-è-ghum nahin karte, faqat taqrēer karte hain.”

To Judges:

“qāatil ki dalēel yeh munsif ne māan lī,

maqtōol khud gira tha khanjar ki nok par.”

Government Counsels-

“apēel bhi tum, dalēel bhi tum,

gawāah bhi tum, wakēel bhi tum,

jise bhi chāho halāal keh do,

jise bhi chāho harāam keh do.”

Registrar/List Allocation-

“tumhare wa’de ki kya hai qīmat,

tumhari bāaton ka kya bharosa,

jo pal ki keh do to kal bana do,

jo kal ki ki keh do to sāal kar do.”

Government-

“jahan se guzro dhuän bichha do,

jahan pe pahuncho dhamāal kar do,

tumhe siyäsat ne haq diya hai,

hari zamēeno ko lāal kar do.”

Clients-

“har ik jism ghāayal, har ik roōh pyaasi,

nigäahon mein uljhan, dilon mein udāasi,

ye duniya hai ya āalam-è-bad hawāsi,

ye duniya agar mil bhi jaye to kya hai.”

Interns (tehreef ke liye mazrat ke saath)

intern bhatakte hain bezaar ban kar,

senior sikhaate hain badkaar ban kar,

yahan case hota hai vyopaar ban kar,

yahan stipend milta hai chai ban kar,

yeh Internship mil bhi jaye toh kya hai!

Junior Advocates-

“Iss hāal mein jēete ho toh marr kyun nahīn jāate,

yuun tōot chuke ho toh bikhar kyun nahīn jaate,

kaise hain yeh arman, ye kavish, ye tagg-ö-dou,

manzil nahin ma’loom toh ghar kyun nahīn jaate?”

Accused-

“lagta nahin hai dil mera ujde dayāar mein,

kiski bani hai āalam-e-na payèdāar mein,

keh do in hasraton se kahin aur jaa basein,

itni jageh kahaan hai dil-e-dãġhdaar mein”

Investigating Officer:

“hashr meñ kaun gavāhī mirī degā 'sāġhar',

sab tumhāre hī taraf-dār nazar aate haiñ”

Jailed without trial:

“navā-ë-subh gāahi ne jigar khūu.n kar diya merā,

khudayā jis khata ki yeh sazã hai woh khatā kya hai”

First generation lawyers:

“silsilè todh gaya hun sabhi jāate-jāate,

warna itne toh marāsim the ke āate-jāate,

humse pehle bhi musãfir guzre honge kayi,

raah ke patthar to kam-se-kam hatāate jāate.”

Death convict:

“kitni mushkil zindagi hai, kis qadar āasan hai möut,

gulshan-è-hasti mein māanind-è-nasèem arzān hai mout,

kulba-è-aflaas mein, doulat ke kāshāne mein möut,

dasht-ö-dar mein, shahar mein, gulshan mein, wēerāne mein möut.”

Life Convicts:

“lutf marne mein bāaqi na maza jēene mein,

kuch maza hai toh yehi khōon-è-jigar pēene mein.”

Nepotism:

“baap ka i’lm na agar bete ko Azbar ho,

phir pisar qābil-è-mirāas-è-pidar kyunkar ho?”

Underprivileged Law Students:

“khudawand tere yeh sāda dil bande kidhar jayèin,

ke sultāni bhi ayyāri hai, darveshi bhi ayyāri.”

Habitual offenders:

“ab isse badh ke bhi gunāah-ë-āashiqui kya hogi,

ke jab rihāayi ka waqt āaya to pinjre se mohabbat ho chukti thi.”

Civil Rights Advocates:

ye hai to sab ke liye ho ye zid hamārī hai,

is ek baat pe duniyā se jañg jaarī hai

uḌaan vaalo uḌānoñ pe vaqt bhārī hai,

paroñ kī ab ke nahīñ hausloñ kī baarī hai

maiñ qatra ho ke bhī tūfāñ se jañg letā huuñ,

mujhe bachānā samundar kī zimmedārī hai

koī batā.e ye us ke ġhurūr-e-bejā ko,

vo jañg maiñ ne laḌī hī nahīñ jo haarī hai

duā karo ki salāmat rahe mirī himmat,

ye ik charāġh ka.ī āñdhiyoñ pe bhārī hai.”

Enforcement Agencies:

“yeh jo kuch log farishtön se bane phirtè hain,

kabhi mere hatthe chadh jayeìn toh insāan ho jayein.”

Delayed Justice:

With Regards,

“mirā qalam nahīñ kirdār us muhāfiz kā,

jo apne shahr ko mahsūr kar ke naaz kare

mirā qalam nahīñ kaasa kisī subuk-sar kā,

jo ġhāsiboñ ko qasīdoñ se sarfarāz kare

mirā qalam nahīñ auzār us naqab-zan kā,

jo apne ghar kī hī chhat meñ shigāf Dāltā hai

mirā qalam nahīñ us duzd-e-nīm-shab kā rafīq,

jo be-charāġh gharoñ par kamand uchhāltā hai

mirā qalam nahīñ tasbīh us maballiġh kī,

jo bandagī kā bhī har dam hisāb rakhtā hai

mirā qalam nahīñ mīzān aise aadil kī,

jo apne chehre pe dohrā naqāb rakhtā hai

mirā qalam to amānat hai mere logoñ kī,

mirā qalam to adālat mire zamīr kī hai

isī liye to jo likkhā tapāk-e-jāñ se likhā,

jabhī to loch kamāñ kā zabān tiir kī hai.”
