A 24-year-old first-year student of South Calcutta Law College was allegedly gang-raped inside the campus guardroom on June 25, 2025. The woman, who reported the incident to Kasba Police on June 26, said she was confined between 7:30 PM and 10:50 PM by an ex-student and two students.
Police arrested Manojit Mishra (31), a former student and contractual staffer, along with Zaib Ahmed (19) and Pramit Mukherjee (20), both current students. The three were remanded to police custody as investigations continue.
A medical examination confirmed sexual assault, with doctors reporting bite marks, nail scratches, and other injuries on the victim. Police seized the accused’s phones for forensic checks.
Authorities, including West Bengal’s Women and Child Welfare Minister, assured strict action. The National Commission for Women sought a police report within three days and demanded full support for the survivor. Protests erupted at the college and police station, with students demanding accountability.
The Trinamool Congress condemned the crime, while the BJP criticized the government over safety failures. The college has yet to issue an official statement.
