About Writ & Ramble
Writ & Ramble is a digital legal magazine that publishes offbeat, contemporary, and culturally relevant legal content in a concise and engaging format. Our work explores the intersection of law with current affairs, pop culture, and media, recent pieces include discussions on the Kolhapuri footwear controversy in Indian IP law and the Supreme Court’s decision in Kalyani Transco v. M/s Bhushan Power and Steel & Ors.
Our aim is to make legal writing more accessible and engaging for the present and upcoming legal fraternity, while still maintaining analytical depth. Although our content is legal in nature, we consciously write in a manner that is interesting and approachable for readers across disciplines.

Submission Guidelines

Writ & Ramble welcome guest submissions on the following columns
1. Argument of the Month
In this column, we spotlight a compelling argument from a recent landmark judgment; one that shifted the court’s reasoning, reframed the legal issue, or influenced the outcome in a meaningful way. Submissions should identify the argument, explain its doctrinal significance, and analyse how it shaped the ruling (or how it could have reshaped it if the court had engaged differently). This column celebrates sharp legal reasoning and persuasive advocacy. Note: this is not a case analysis or a case note, the aim is to highlight a specific (notable) argument made by either side of counsel.
2. Blast from the Past
This column revisits major events or controversies, such as the Enron scandal, the 2016 Indian demonetisation, or other pivotal global developments, and explores their legal fallout. Submissions may unpack the background of the event, regulatory failures revealed, litigation that followed, lasting policy changes, and how the event continues to influence the legal landscape today. Ensure that this is not a current event. The idea here is to revisit something that shook the world.
3. Law vs. Life
Where law meets lived experience. This column invites thoughtful explorations of how legal frameworks shape everyday realities, whether it’s renting a flat, dating, or participating in the gig economy. We seek accessible, engaging pieces that make the law relatable while uncovering its subtle (and not-so-subtle) effects on daily life. For instance, writers can submit a piece that details various laws associated with dating, such as jurisprudence that equates live-in relationships and marriage, and their repercussions, such as maintenance and the application of the Domestic Violence Act.
4. Visual Brief: Flowchart / Cartoon / Meme
A fun and creative space for visually explaining the law. Submissions may take the form of flowcharts that simplify complex procedures, cartoons that offer humorous commentary, or memes that capture legal moments with wit. Clarity, originality, and visual appeal are key; this column aims to make legal ideas memorable through design and humour.
5. Law Behind the Lore
Every trending headline has a legal backbone. This column breaks down the statutory and regulatory framework behind something currently in the news or pop culture; whether it’s an aviation incident like the Boeing controversy, the recent US government shutdown, or any viral phenomenon. Submissions should connect the public conversation to the legal architecture that governs it, making the “behind-the-scenes” law both accessible and fascinating.
6. On Film
A space where cinema and the law collide. This column draws inspiration from films, web-series, and television shows; whether legal dramas, true-crime narratives, or stories with rich legal themes. Submissions may analyse the accuracy of legal depictions, unpack legal issues raised by the plot, or explore how pop culture shapes public understanding of the justice system.
Note: While not necessary, authors are encouraged to draw an analysis of the legal themes in the film/show with Indian law.
