On the last hearing counsel for AMU was given 10 days’ time for instructions sought from AMU.
Allahabad High Court on Monday took up a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Kaif Hasan, an LLM candidate from the Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), seeking the conduct of student union elections at the university. During the proceedings, AMU’s counsel requested additional time to seek instructions from the university administration regarding the matter.
Granting the request, the Hon’ble Court directed the counsel to obtain necessary directives from the university within a period of 10 days. The bench further ordered the matter to be listed for subsequent hearing post the completion of this timeframe.
The petitioner was represented by Advocates Zeeshan Khan and Ali Bin Saif, who argued for the urgency and necessity of the elections in preserving student representation and democratic processes within the institution which finds its genesis in Lyngdoh Recommended passed by Hon’ble Apex Court.
The High Court’s directive now places the onus on AMU to furnish its position on the issue, potentially setting the stage for pivotal developments in the case.
