Sharjeel Imam : Delhi High Court Grants Bail to Sharjeel Imam in UAPA and Sedition Case
The Delhi High Court has granted bail to Sharjeel Imam in a case involving charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and sedition. Imam was accused of delivering inflammatory speeches at Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. The court, comprising Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Manoj Jain, approved the bail after Imam’s lawyers argued that he had already served over four years, more than half of the maximum seven-year sentence. The prosecution opposed the bail, stating Imam hadn’t completed half the sentence and had delayed the trial. Despite this bail, Imam will remain in custody due to his alleged involvement in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case.
